“A selecção dos trabalhos de vídeo para esta Playlist foi concebida de forma a fazer uma revisão dos meus primeiros anos a trabalhar em imagens em movimento. Concentrando-se no período entre 2003 a 2008, a Playlist em si divide-se conceptualmente como um álbum com um lado A e B embora a projecção deva ser vista como um todo, como um CD. Na pesquisa para este projecto “forcei-me” a digitalizar as cerca de 80 cassetes de Mini-DV do meu arquivo. Acabei por seleccionar trabalhos que raramente foram vistos em publico e outros que são inéditos. Vídeos de diversas tipologias, incluindo os de carácter performático mas também outros mais experimentais e intimistas.”

A carta que o artista Sol LeWitt escreveu a Eva Hesse (uma espécie de voto de confiança dirigida a uma artista) em 1965 é apresentada como um video-clip da MTV.
Biografia
João Leonardo (Odemira 1974, vive e trabalha actualmente em Klippan, Suécia) é licenciado em História da Arte pela Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1996).
Frequentou o Programa de Estudos Independentes da Maumaus Escola de Artes Visuais em 2003. Terminou o Mestrado na Malmö Art Academy, Lund University em 2009 com uma bolsa de estudo da Fundação Gulbenkian. Foi artista residente na International Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia (Bamberg, 2010-2011) e vencedor do Prémio EDP Novos Artistas (2005).
Expõe regularmente desde 2002. Entre as suas exposições individuais recentes devem referir-se: Decadança, no MNAC-Museu do Chiado (2017), Europa: Polar Shift no Museu de Portimão (2016); Flying High, Falling Low na Galeria 111, em Lisboa (2013) e Porto (2014); Breathe in, breathe out (2013) na Galeria Mors Mössa em Gotembourgo e Seven Seconds (2011) Martin Bryder Gallery, Lund, Suécia.
As obras aqui arquivadas, da autoria de João Leonardo, foram apresentadas durante a Playlist #18, em Janeiro de 2018, no Café Candelabro, Porto, Portugal.

“The selection of video work for this Playlist is designed to review my early years working on moving images. Focusing on the period between 2003 and 2008, the Playlist itself is conceptually divided as an album with an A and B side although the projection should be seen as a whole, like a CD. In the search for this project I “forced” myself to scan about 80 Mini-DV cassettes from my archive. I ended up selecting works that were rarely seen in public and others that are unpublished. Videos of different types, including those of performative nature but also others more experimental and intimate.”

Bio
João Leonardo (Odemira 1974, currently lives and works in Klippan, Sweden) holds a degree in History of Art from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1996). He attended the Independent Studies Program at Maumaus School of Visual Arts in 2003 and graduated from Malmö Art Academy, Lund University in 2009 with a scholarship from the Gulbenkian Foundation. He was a resident artist at the International Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia (Bamberg, 2010-2011) and winner of the EDP Novos Artistas Award (2005).
He has exhibited regularly since 2002. His recent solo exhibitions include: Decadence at the MNAC-Chiado Museum (2017), Europa: Polar Shift at the Portimão Museum (2016); Flying High, Falling Low at Galeria 111, Lisbon (2013) and Porto (2014); Breathe in, breathe out (2013) at the Mors Mössa Gallery in Gothenburg and Seven Seconds (2011) Martin Bryder Gallery, Lund, Sweden.
